Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested six suspects and seized large quantities of illicit drugs during a raid at a notorious drug enclave in Ama Hausa, Bonny Island, Rivers State. The operation, carried out on February 6, 2026, tragically left one officer dead.

Chief Narcotic Agent, Sadiq Bako Mujahid sustained fatal head injuries after gang leader Genesis George Benson mobilized armed assailants to resist arrest. Mujahid was rushed to Bonny Island General Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Despite the violent attack, all six suspects were apprehended. The other suspects include ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) praised the bravery of the operatives, saying: “Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, our operatives ensured that the assailants were overpowered and arrested, and their illicit substances confiscated. Their sacrifice will not be in vain.”

Marwa mourned the loss of Mujahid, describing him as a disciplined and courageous officer who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. He warned that any attack on NDLEA officers would have severe consequences and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating illicit drugs across Nigeria.

The seized substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol, highlighting the scale of drug trafficking operations in the area.
