Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 39-year-old woman, Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat in Lagos after uncovering 23.50 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed inside her residence.

The arrest followed months of intelligence-led investigations linked to a trans-border drug trafficking syndicate earlier uncovered by the agency in Lagos and Ogun States. NDLEA operatives have continued follow-up operations aimed at dismantling the network and apprehending other fleeing members.

In a statement, the NDLEA said sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering led officers to the suspect’s hideout in Surulere, Lagos, where she was eventually apprehended.

According to the agency, “Determined to rein in every member of the syndicate, NDLEA operatives continued follow-up intelligence and surveillance on the trans-border drug trafficking organization until a 39-year-old female stash keeper, Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat, was identified as a key member of the DTO.

She was subsequently trailed to her residence at No. 31 Onasanya Street, Surulere, Lagos, where she was arrested on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.”

Following her arrest, a search on the residence was conducted, leading to the recovery of the illicit drugs.

“A thorough search of her home resulted in the discovery of blocks of cocaine weighing 23.50 kilogrammes concealed in a black suitcase, recovered from her children’s room. The suspect admitted ownership of the drug consignment, estimated to be worth over N5 billion in street value,” the statement added.

The NDLEA noted that investigations into the case are ongoing, as efforts are being intensified towards tracking down other members of the drug trafficking syndicate.
