National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a convicted drug trafficker, Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, alongside three cargo agents, following the interception of cocaine concealed in factory-sealed cold-water starch sachets at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

The agency said 75 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.50 kilogrammes, destined for the United Kingdom, were recovered at the airport’s export shed. Three cargo agents: Jubrin Hassana, Kuku Oluwasegun and Igwe Jane, were arrested on Saturday, December 20, 2025, while further investigations led to the arrest of Nwobodo the next day at a relaxation centre in Ikeja.

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi disclosed that Nwobodo is a repeat offender who was convicted in 2023 for trafficking 30.10kg of methamphetamine concealed in custard containers and bound for London.

He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦7 million fine, which he paid before returning to drug trafficking.

In related operations, the NDLEA arrested a 65-year-old driver in Gombe State with thousands of tramadol pills and pentazocine injections, and a businessman, Ignatius Egbochie, over a 26kg seizure of “loud” cannabis at Tincan Port, Lagos.

The agency also destroyed cannabis warehouses, seized large quantities of illicit drugs across Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, Abuja, Lagos and Taraba States; reaffirming its resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks, nationwide.
