President Bola Tinubu approved Dr. Odusote’s appointment on Tuesday, making her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, signed by the Chairperson of the NBAWF, Huwaila Muhammad, the forum said the appointment marks a defining moment in the history of legal education in the country.

“Dr. Odusote’s appointment marks a defining moment in the history of legal education in Nigeria, represents a significant win for women at the Bar and in the legal profession at large,” the statement read.

The forum described her emergence as a powerful affirmation that merit and professionalism can overcome entrenched gender barriers.

“Her appointment is a powerful testament to the fact that excellence, dedication, and competence can indeed dismantle long-standing gender barriers,” the NBAWF stated.

Expressing confidence in her leadership capacity, the forum said it believes Dr. Odusote’s tenure will usher in renewed vision and reforms at the Nigerian Law School.

“We are confident that her leadership will bring renewed vision, integrity, and progressive reforms that will further strengthen the Nigerian Law School and the legal profession,” the statement added.

The NBA Women Forum further noted that her emergence as the first female Director-General of the Nigerian Law School has broader implications for women in the legal profession, serving as inspiration for female lawyers and aspiring legal practitioners across the country.

The statement concluded by congratulating Dr. Odusote on what it described as a well-deserved milestone.

“Once again, congratulations on this historic feat. It is truly a victory for women in law,” the forum said.
