Joint Unions of Nassarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI) on Monday announced an indefinite strike, citing the state government’s failure to implement the New National Minimum Wage fully.
JUNSTI Chairman Samson Gbande disclosed the decision in Lafia after meeting with union leaders from Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, and College of Education, Akwanga.
Gbande said repeated engagements with the state government including meetings on August 6, October 23, December 3, and December 15, 2025 had yielded assurances that the new wage would take effect from November 2025, these promises were not fulfilled.
“The union regrets the government’s failure to implement the new salary structure and has therefore resolved to embark on an indefinite strike for the betterment of its members,” Gbande stated, reaffirming the action previously announced on Christmas Eve.
He called on members to remain calm while assuring that “no stone would be left unturned” until the legitimate demands of workers are met, stressing that the delay undermines productivity, stability in the state’s education sector.
