Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has announced an undisclosed end-of-year bonus for civil servants across the state’s 13 local government areas, alongside the unveiling of new public service rules aimed at improving efficiency, accountability.

The Governor made the announcement on Tuesday, December 16 in Lafia, the state capital, during the 2025 Nasarawa State Civil Service Week celebration.

Sule explained that while the state government would ordinarily have declared a 13th-month salary, the uneven financial capacity of some local government councils made a uniform implementation impracticable.

“I do not want to go ahead in saying that I am paying 13 months, and LGAs will say they can only pay 30 to 40 per cent,” the Governor said

“Because of that, we will ask the LGAs to do their due process, find out how much they have saved, tell me what percentage they can pay. The moment they tell me this is the percentage they can pay, that is exactly what the state can get.”

He described the Civil Service Week as an opportunity to appraise the civil service not merely as a workforce, but as a living institution driven by excellence, integrity, innovation.

Speaking on the theme of the event, ” Repositioning the Civil Service for a Digital and Production Future ,” Sule said it was timely, given the administration’s commitment to digital governance.

“In this age of global digital transformation, no government can afford to operate without data tools, methods, and mindset. The civil service must evolve into a smart, technology-driven, data-informed organization capable of responding swiftly to the needs of the people of Nasarawa State,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that the state was laying the foundation for a paperless, efficient, transparent public administration through the ongoing digitalization of human resource systems, payroll management, record-keeping, aimed at building a productive future-ready public service.

Sule further noted that in recognition of the sacrifices of civil servants, his administration had approved and implemented a backlog of promotions, restoring confidence and fairness within the system.
