The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N545.2 billion into law, increasing the budget by N27.6 billion from the N517.5 billion earlier presented by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, announced the passage during plenary in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Jatau said that the budget, if assented to by the governor, would enable the state government to initiate people-oriented projects aimed at accelerating the overall development of Nasarawa State.
He commended members of the House Standing Committees for their diligence and contributions during the budget review process and urged the executive arm to ensure full implementation of the budget as passed.
“The Bill seeks to authorise the issue out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the state the sum of N545,182,100,910.14 for the services of the Nasarawa State Government for the 12 months commencing from January 1 to December 31, 2026,” the Speaker said.
He added that the budget comprises N316,265,270,661.07 for capital expenditure and N228,717,880,249.07 for recurrent expenditure.
Explaining the increase, Jatau attributed the N27.6 billion upward review to the prevailing surge in inflation across the market.
“In the upward review, security votes and services in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Ministry of Special Duties, Security and Sundry Matters received an additional N14 billion, while the Ministry of Local Government got an additional N7 billion,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism received an additional N3.7 billion, while funds were also allocated for the construction of the 55-kilometre Lafia–Kwandere–Garaku road, among other projects.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for Governor Sule’s assent.
Earlier, the Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, moved the motion for the passage of the bill, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba. The House unanimously passed the bill.
It will be recalled that on November 26, 2025, Governor Sule presented the N517.5 billion 2026 budget, christened the “Budget of Strategic Consolidation,” to the House for consideration and approval.
