Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has reiterated that his son will not be buried until a DNA test determines the paternity of Mohbad’s child.
A Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu had earlier ordered a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to establish whether Liam Aloba is the biological son of the deceased. Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the directive following an application filed by Aloba.
Speaking in a video posted on his TikTok account, Aloba alleged that influential individuals were attempting to frustrate the process. He also indicated the possibility of transferring the case from Lagos State to Ekiti State.
“Some powerful people have connived to use Mohbad’s death to frustrate me. After the toxicology was done, nothing came out of it, and now they have gone to pick a questionable DNA centre,” Aloba said. “If possible, we will seek to transfer the case from Lagos to Ekiti State.
Aloba appealed to the Lagos State Government to allow the burial to proceed, stressing that the DNA test remains a critical condition. He also called on the public to support his demand, saying the test is necessary to establish crucial facts.
The family’s legal representatives had previously raised concerns over the capacity of some laboratories selected for the paternity test. Family counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, disclosed that the court, on February 24, 2026, directed that the test be conducted in three mutually agreed laboratories: DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, to ensure transparency. Preliminary checks, however, raised concerns about the technical competence of some facilities.
Mohbad passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, triggering nationwide outrage and legal disputes over his estate, royalties, and the paternity of his child. His son, Liam, was born in April 2023, months before the singer’s death, and the paternity issue has continued to generate public interest.
The case remains pending as the family seeks clarity before proceeding with the burial.
