Ministry of Education, Akwa Ibom State has issued a firm directive to private school operators across the state, warning against any attempt to resume academic activities ahead of the officially approved date for the third term.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Ubong Essien Umoh, expressed concern over reports that some private primary and secondary schools are planning to reopen on Monday, April 13, 2026, contrary to the state’s academic calendar.
The Ministry emphasized that the officially approved resumption date for all public and private primary and secondary schools remains Monday, April 20, 2026. Authorities stressed that the directive is binding on all schools without exception.
According to the statement, any institution found operating before the stipulated date will be considered to be in violation of state regulations and will face strict disciplinary measures.
School proprietors and administrators have been urged to comply fully with the harmonized school calendar, while parents and guardians are advised to keep their children and wards at home until the official reopening date.
The statement was signed by Mr. Abasiama Inyang, Director covering duties for the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and uniformity within the education system, warning that non-compliance will not be tolerated.
