The Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE has debunked a viral claim by a youth leader in Angwan Rukuba Community, describing allegations that troops aided perpetrators of a recent attack as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on March 31, 2026, the military said the comment, which has been circulating on social media, wrongly accused troops of providing cover for those responsible for the Palm Sunday attack in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Joint Task Force clarified that troops did not, at any time, support the attackers. Instead, it said personnel responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, but the assailants had already fled the scene before their arrival.
According to the statement, troops were deployed from a distant location and acted promptly to prevent further escalation of violence. Survivors and other security agencies reportedly confirmed the professionalism of the military’s response.
“Four gun trucks were dispatched to the scene, and troops acted professionally on arrival,” the statement noted, adding that a preliminary investigation found the allegations to be unfounded.
The military described the viral comment as “false, misleading and unfortunate,” warning that such claims could undermine troop morale and strain relations between security forces and local communities.
While urging the public to disregard the allegation, the Joint Task Force called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to support security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
It added that efforts are underway, in collaboration with other security agencies, to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in Plateau State, assuring that it would continue to act decisively against criminal elements.
