The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reassured Nigerians of sustained security vigilance across the country amid evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global implications.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, the police said measures had been reinforced to safeguard lives, property and national peace.

The statement noted that although Nigeria remains stable and its internal security situation is firmly under control, the Force has adopted proactive, intelligence-led policing strategies nationwide.

According to the police, the Acting IGP has directed Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to heighten surveillance and intelligence gathering. Particular attention, the statement said, is being given to the North-West, North-East and North-Central zones.

The directives also include strengthening collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, increasing visibility policing around worship centres and public spaces, and responding swiftly to any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tension.

“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts. Any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country will be met with the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

IGP Disu called on community leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding.

He also encouraged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining national security, stating that it remains resolute and fully prepared to protect every Nigerian at all times. Middle East Tensions: Police Assure Nigerians of Heightened Security Vigilance
