Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two brothers, Ibrahim Abu Babatunde and Tahir Abu, who were kidnapped on Friday, January 2, 2026, in Auchi, Edo North Senatorial District.
Ibrahim, a medical doctor currently undergoing his housemanship at Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi, was reportedly abducted alongside his brother while attempting to gain access to his residence after returning from work.
The incident occurred in front of their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, throwing the Abu family of the Iyetse Clan, Utsogun Heritage Zone, and the wider community into panic.
A family source described the incident as disturbing, saying the brothers were seized as Ibrahim tried to open his gate.
“This is deeply disturbing, unacceptable. A young doctor whose only crime is serving humanity has now become another victim aof insecurity. We call on security agencies, the Edo State Government, and all relevant authorities to act immediately and ensure their safe, unconditional release,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command said the case was reported at about 8:30p.m. on January 2, 2026.
According to her, operatives from the Auchi Divisional Headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized operatives in collaboration with vigilantes, forest guards, and Community Safety Partnership Volunteers who are well conversant with the forest terrain,” she said.
The PPRO added that aggressive search-and-rescue operations have been ongoing in the surrounding forest areas since Friday night.
“The Command assures the family, the general public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. Further developments will be communicated as events unfold,” she stated.
