MAN HACKS VILLAGER TO DEATH OVER AFFAIR WITH WIFE IN YOBE

Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Hassan Umaru, for allegedly killing a fellow villager, Sukari Abdul, 45, over suspicion of an illicit affair involving his wife.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the incident occurred on February 1, 2026, at about 12:30p.m. in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the incident was reported to the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters, following a confrontation between the suspect and the deceased at the village market square.

“On February 1, 2026, at about 12:30 hours, the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a report that one Alhaji Hassan Umaru, aged 50, allegedly suspected Sukari Abdul, aged 45, both of Bundila Village, of having an affair with his wife,” the statement read.

Abdulkarim said the disagreement escalated during the confrontation, leading to the alleged attack.

“In the course of the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a cutlass at the market square. The victim was rushed to the Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” he said.

The police spokesman added that the suspect was promptly arrested and the weapon allegedly used in committing the offence was recovered.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended, and the cutlass used in committing the offence was recovered. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and thorough investigation,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Emmanuel Ado, warned residents against resorting to self-help or violence in resolving disputes.

“The Commissioner of Police cautions members of the public against taking laws into their hands, especially in resolving marital or social disputes, urges residents to report grievances to the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.

Police assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
