US President, Donald Trump has said Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib should be sent back from where they came from – following their protests during his State of the Union address.

During Tuesday’s speech, Omar and Tlaib were among a small group of Democratic lawmakers who interrupted the President as he praised his administration’s immigration crackdown. As Trump called for an end to sanctuary cities, the two lawmakers shouted that his administration had killed Americans.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump criticized the lawmakers’ behaviour and described them as corrupt politicians who damage the country. He said they should be removed from the United States as quickly as possible.

Omar later defended her actions, saying she was reminding the President that two of her constituents were killed during federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota earlier this year. She represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis, where immigration raids have sparked protests.

Tlaib, the first woman of Palestinian descent elected to Congress, also responded on social media, criticizing the President’s remarks. Both lawmakers are among the first Muslim women elected to the US Congress and have previously been targets of Trump’s criticism.

The President’s comments did not reference other Democrats who protested during the address, including Representative Al Green, who was escorted from the House chamber after holding a sign referencing a racist video involving former President Barack Obama.

The exchange underscores deep political divisions in Washington, particularly over immigration policy and civil rights, as tensions continue to rise ahead of upcoming legislative battles.
