LASTMA SANCTIONS 19 OFFICERS FOR MISCONDUCT

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has sanctioned 19 of its officers over various acts of misconduct recorded in 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen discipline, professionalism within the agency.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos, saying the disciplinary actions were approved by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.

According to Bakare-Oki, five officers were dismissed from service, nine were demoted, while the remaining officers received severe warning letters.

He explained that the authority has reinforced its internal monitoring and surveillance mechanisms to curb excesses among officers deployed on Lagos roads.

“We have been able to improve our surveillance unit, and on a daily basis, officers move out to check the excesses of our men on the road,” he said.
“The surveillance officers go out in plain clothes, like a mystery shopper, to identify our men who intend to operate against laid down guidelines.”

Bakare-Oki noted that complaints from members of the public are treated with seriousness, stressing that all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated before disciplinary measures are taken.

“We have series of examples where our men are penalised whenever they are reported, and we do due diligence to ensure we establish the truth.
If our men are found wanting, they are always punished,” he added.

The LASTMA boss reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to improving traffic management across Lagos State, assuring residents of continued efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic and the seamless movement of people, goods.

He reiterated that LASTMA remains resolute in upholding professionalism, accountability while carrying out its mandate of traffic control and road safety across the state.
