The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of a mini-marathon organized in support of President Bola Tinubu, scheduled to hold on Sunday in parts of Agege, Lagos.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, LASTMA said the marathon would commence from Agege Local Government Area, pass through Odo Eran, Oba Ogunji, Oke Koto, Oniwaya and Dopemu.
According to the agency, the route will further connect Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road to Agbotikuyo, link Old Ipaja Motor Road, and terminate at Orile Agege, within the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
LASTMA noted that vehicular movement would be restricted along the affected corridors during the event, advising motorists to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
“Vehicles coming from Wemco Road can go through Ogba to Excellent Hotel, linking College Road to Iju Road, and continue their journey,” the agency stated.
It added that motorists approaching from Pen Cinema should use Moshalashi Alhaja, link Mobil Ashade, and proceed accordingly.
The mini-marathon, tagged ‘Run for Asiwaju 2027,’ is being organized by the Orile-Agege LCDA under its chairman, Mr Dipo Liadi.
According to the organizers, the event is aimed at fostering unity, discovering athletic talent, and mobilising grassroots support for President Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Participants are drawn from various categories, including youths, professionals, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, VIPs, as well as representatives of the Hausa and Igbo communities, to ensure inclusivity.
The organizers disclosed that prizes totalling ₦2.3 million would be awarded, with the first 200 finishers receiving ₦10,000 each, while seven elite athletes would earn ₦50,000 apiece.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, a key supporter of the initiative, had earlier announced his participation in the VIP category, describing the marathon as symbolic of President Tinubu’s “transformative leadership.”
In a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, Obasa said the event would reward excellence and encourage community participation.
LASTMA urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials deployed for the event, plan their movements ahead to minimize delays.
