Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate multiple sexual misconduct allegations made against Senior Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.
The directive follows growing public outrage over allegations circulating widely on social media in recent days.
The cleric stepped aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as the controversy intensified, with several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, making allegations against him.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the Commissioner directed the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning, summon the alleged victims and witnesses to assist ongoing investigations.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” Adebisi told PUNCH Online.
She added that witnesses would also be interviewed to provide statements relevant to the case.
The police action marks a shift from an earlier position taken by the command.
On Friday, Adebisi had said the police could not arrest the cleric because no formal petition had been submitted by any of the alleged victims.
She disclosed on Sunday that, on her own initiative, she contacted a YouTuber who interviewed some of the alleged victims to obtain links that could lead investigators to relevant witnesses.
The allegations against Okafor first gained public attention on December 14, when actress Doris Ogala posted videos on social media accusing the pastor of an inappropriate relationship, other misconduct.
She later issued a legal notice, demanding damages, alleging intimidation following her arrest and detention.
As the controversy widened, other women also made allegations ranging from sexual misconduct and manipulation to infidelity.
Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also accused him of infidelity and physical abuse.
The cleric had last Sunday publicly apologized to Ogala during a church service, where he admitted to past “mistakes” and asked for forgiveness.
The development came weeks after Okafor’s wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, an event attended by several prominent clerics.
However, some members of the church have rejected the allegations, describing them as attempts to extort money from the pastor.
