Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maryam Muhammad, for allegedly abducting her friend’s four-year-old son, Abdulmumini Surajo, and demanding a ₦5 million ransom for his release.
A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident in a post on X on Monday, said the child was declared missing on November 26, 2025.
Shortly after the boy disappeared, his father reportedly received a call from an unknown female voice demanding the ransom.
Makama stated that police detectives immediately launched a manhunt and successfully traced the phone number used to place the ransom call to Muhammad.
“The victim, Abdulmumini Surajo, went missing on November 26, 2025. Later that day, the father received a call from an unknown female voice demanding five million naira. Police detectives traced the call and identified the caller as Maryam Muhammad, 25, a married woman from the same area,” he said.
The suspect was arrested and allegedly confessed to abducting the child.
The boy was rescued unharmed on November 29 at about 6:08 p.m. in Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area, where the suspect had reportedly kept him.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, said the suspect acted out of malice.
“The suspect had a misunderstanding with the mother of the boy and decided to retaliate by kidnapping him. She is currently in our custody, and investigation is ongoing,” he said.

The incident comes amid rising cases of kidnapping in Kebbi State, including the recent abduction of female students in the Maga area on November 17.
Armed bandits invaded the school, killing two staff members and kidnapping 25 students, who were later released.
