Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has raised serious concerns over the withdrawal of military personnel from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School Maga barely an hour before armed men abducted dozens of students in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.

Governor Idris spoke on Thursday while hosting the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Joe Ajaero who visited the state in solidarity with the affected families.

Visibly disturbed by the circumstances surrounding the attack the governor questioned why troops were pulled out despite intelligence alerts earlier issued by the state government.

According to him the soldiers left the school around 3am and the attackers arrived less than 45 minutes later.

“We provided intelligence. We raised the alarm. So who authorised the withdrawal at such a critical hour” Idris asked calling for a thorough military investigation to unravel the decision making behind the pullout.

He further noted that the withdrawal contradicted earlier assurances that security presence around schools in border communities known to be vulnerable to bandit attacks would be reinforced.

NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed solidarity with the state government and families of the abducted students urging federal security agencies to prioritise the safe return of the girls.

The abduction has triggered widespread outrage across the country and adds to the recurring pattern of school attacks in Nigerias North West despite repeated government promises to secure learning environments.
