The Joint Consultative Forum of tertiary educational institutions owned by the Katsina State Government has suspended its two-week warning strike, bringing relief to students and parents across the state.

The Chairman of the forum, Dr. Muhammad Nasir-Gidado, announced the decision in a statement issued in Katsina on Saturday.

The strike was declared on January 12, 2026, over what the forum described as the state government’s failure to address its demands, including the non-approval and non-implementation of 35 per cent and 25 per cent salary increments for staff of the affected institutions.

Nasir-Gidado said the forum also demanded the immediate proper placement of non-migrated staff on the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS 15) and protested the increase in students’ registration fees, which it said was implemented without consideration for prevailing economic realities, leading to declining enrolment.

He said the suspension followed the intervention of key stakeholders and respected indigenes of the state, adding that negotiations with the government would begin immediately to resolve outstanding issues.

“In view of the above, we are calling on all our respected members to resume their primary assignments with the usual dedication and commitment to duty with immediate effect,” he said.

The institutions affected by the strike include:
• Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic
• Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma
• Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura
• College of Nursing Sciences (Katsina and Malumfashi campuses)
• College of Health Science and Technology (Daura/Kankia campuses)
• Institute of Technology and Management

Nasir-Gidado thanked parents and students for their patience and assured that the forum would continue to pursue its demands through dialogue.
