KATSINA CONFIRMS NEW LASSA FEVER CASE AS THREE OTHERS DIE

The Katsina State Government has reported a new case of Lassa fever, increasing the total number of recent infections to four.

Dr. Kabir Sulaiman, an official from the State Primary Health Care Agency, disclosed the update while speaking to correspondent Muhammad Yahaya. According to him, three of the four confirmed cases have been fatal.

The cases were identified in Funtua and Dan Musa Local Government Areas. Among the patients, the sole survivor is a woman, who is married to one of the deceased victims.

Authorities have traced 44 individuals who had contact with the infected patients. All were placed under observation, and 37 have completed the monitoring period and were discharged.

The government has assured that measures are in place to prevent further spread of the virus. Meanwhile, the remaining patient is receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Centre of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, and is showing signs of recovery.

Health experts are urging residents to maintain strict hygiene, take precautions against rodent exposure, and report any symptoms promptly to medical authorities.
