A Kaduna State High Court has convicted and sentenced one Faruk Suleiman Ololade, who posed as an Australian national, to three years imprisonment for fraud.

Ololade, also known as “Caesar Smith,” was prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge bordering on impersonation.

According to the charge, the convict, on February 12, 2026, impersonated an Australian citizen, Mr. Caesar Smith, on Facebook with the intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, an offence contrary to Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

He pleaded guilty to the charge, prompting prosecution counsel, Moses Arumemi, to urge the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Delivering judgment, Justice Jaafaru Zubairu sentenced Ololade to three years imprisonment, with an option of a N300,000 fine.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of his Redmi 15C mobile phone, identified as the tool used in committing the crime, to the Federal Government.

The EFCC said the convict was arrested following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected internet fraudsters operating around Turaki Signboard in Agwa area of Kaduna State.
