Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved an increase in the monthly allowance of ward heads, also known as Maiunguwa, from three thousand naira to ten thousand naira.
The decision was announced after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Dutse.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Nura Kazaure, said the approval reflects the administration’s commitment to supporting grassroots leadership.
He described ward heads as key figures in the traditional institution, noting that they play an important role in community leadership and the implementation of government directives at the grassroots level.
According to him, the increase in their allowance is aimed at recognising their contributions and addressing current economic realities.
At the same meeting, the council also approved the transmission of a bill to the Jigawa State House of Assembly for the establishment of the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences.

Dr. Kazaure said the council also approved the appointment of the first principal officers of the proposed university.
They include Professor Mahmud Sani as Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Jahun as Registrar, Dr. Muhammadu Yusuf as Librarian, and Sani Sulaiman as Bursar, with their appointments taking immediate effect for a period of five years.
In addition, the council approved the membership of the central planning committee for the 2026 Jigawa State Investment Summit.
The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman, while Dr. Muhammad Sagagi will serve as Vice Chairman, and the Director-General of InvestJigawa as Secretary.

According to the commissioner, the committee comprises 31 members drawn from key ministries, the private sector, development partners and the governing council of InvestJigawa, and will oversee the organisation of the investment summit.
