The Jerusalem municipality on Saturday ordered the closure of schools and most workplaces following Israel’s launch of strikes on Iran, citing heightened security concerns.

In a statement, the municipality said the directive followed a security assessment by the Home Front Command and the decision to carry out what it described as a preemptive strike against Iran.

“In accordance with the assessment of the situation by the Home Front Command and the launch of a preemptive strike against Iran, it has been decided to change the guidelines and transition from full activity to essential activity throughout the country,” the statement read.

Under the new guidelines, all educational activities have been suspended, public gatherings are prohibited, and workplaces will remain closed except for those classified as essential services.

The restrictions took effect on Saturday, February 28, at 8:00a.m. local time (0600 GMT) and are scheduled to remain in place until Monday, March 2, at 8:00p.m. (1800 GMT).

Authorities said the measures are aimed at ensuring public safety amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
