A former Governor of Plateau State and Senator, Jonah Jang has denied reports suggesting that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to either the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang described the reports as false, misleading, insisting that he remains a committed member of the PDP, a party he helped to found.
The statement noted that although the former governor would ordinarily have ignored what it termed the handiwork of mischief makers, it became necessary to respond in order to set the record straight.
“As a founding member of the PDP, Senator Jang remains in the party of pride of the Nigerian people, the PDP,” the statement said.
While acknowledging the internal challenges currently facing the party, Jang expressed confidence that the numerous court cases surrounding the PDP would ultimately resolve its crises, restore it to its former position in Nigerian politics.
“Distinguished Senator Jang strongly believes that the PDP will overcome its present challenges, put its past behind it, and reclaim its pride of place,” the statement added.

The denial follows widespread speculation on social media alleging that the former governor had defected to either the ADC or SDP.
Meanwhile, the controversy comes amid recent political developments in Plateau State, following the announcement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, a known protégé of Jang, from the PDP to the ruling party.
The announcement was made last week by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Governor Mutfwang’s alleged defection has since generated intense debate among political observers, party supporters, prompting Jang’s statement to clarify his political position.
