The Israeli military on Friday announced that it carried out a series of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, hitting weapons depots, military structures, and a training complex linked to the Iran-backed group.

In a statement, the Israeli military said the strikes targeted facilities allegedly used by Hezbollah to plan attacks against Israel.

“A number of weapons storage facilities, terrorist infrastructure sites were struck, which were used by Hezbollah to advance terror attacks against the State of Israel,” the statement said.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli aircraft conducted a “series of airstrikes” on mountainous areas in the Nabatiyeh and Jezzine districts in southern Lebanon, as well as the Hermel district in the east of the country.

Despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024, which was intended to end more than a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have continued.

Israel has also maintained troops in five locations it considers strategically important.

According to an AFP tally based on reports from Lebanon’s Health Ministry, more than 340 people have been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect.

The latest strikes come a day after similar Israeli attacks near the Syrian border and in southern Lebanon reportedly killed three people.

On Thursday, the Israeli military said it had killed a member of Iran’s elite Quds Force in a separate strike in Lebanon, escalating tensions further in the region.

On Friday, Israel reiterated that it had targeted several Hezbollah military structures, warning that it would continue to “remove any threat posed to the State of Israel.”

Amid heavy United States pressure and growing fears of wider Israeli operations, the Lebanese government has committed to disarming Hezbollah, beginning in southern Lebanon near the Israeli border.

Lebanon’s army has announced plans to complete the disarmament of armed groups south of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the Israeli frontier, by the end of the year.

However, Israel has expressed doubts about the Lebanese military’s effectiveness, has accused Hezbollah of rearming, claims the group has denied.

Hezbollah has also rejected calls to surrender its weapons, insisting they are necessary for resisting Israeli aggression.
