Iran has issued a stern warning to neighbouring countries to avoid involvement in its escalating conflict with the United States and Israel, following a drone attack on a base in Kuwait hosting US and Italian troops.

The attack targeted the Ali Al Salem airbase, destroying an unmanned Italian aircraft but causing no casualties, according to the Italian military. Rome’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, emphasized that Italy is not at war with anyone, calling for calm amid rising tensions.

Iran’s top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, accused foreign powers of using regional bases to launch attacks against Tehran and urged neighbours to “expel foreign aggressors.” Speaking to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Araghchi said: “This war will end when we are certain that it will not be repeated and that reparations will be paid.”

The warnings came a day after former US President Donald Trump called on other nations including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK to cooperate in securing the Strait of Hormuz, which has been partially closed by Iran, causing a 40% surge in global oil prices.

While the US continues airstrikes on Iranian drone, boat, and missile sites, other countries have offered guarded responses. France and the UK have called for de-escalation, while Japan and South Korea said existing laws and protocols make naval deployment difficult.

Iraq also reported rocket attacks at Baghdad’s airport, which houses a US diplomatic facility, wounding five people.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that member countries in Asia and Oceania would release 400 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves immediately, with Europe and the Americas to follow in the coming weeks, aiming to stabilize energy markets.

Trump, in a weekend interview, insisted the US is seeking better terms from Iran, claiming Tehran is eager to negotiate, but Araghchi denied that Iran is requesting a deal, signaling that the standoff may continue.

The crisis highlights the fragility of global energy security and the risks of further escalation in the Gulf region, with Tehran warning that any foreign intervention could widen the conflict.
