Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has expressed confidence that his administration’s ongoing delivery of critical infrastructure across the state will strengthen public trust in government, translate into increased support for President Bola Tinubu.
Fubara stated this on Tuesday, December 16 during the commissioning of the 5.94-kilometre Ihuowo-Ihuama Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor described the road as a former death trap, hub of criminal activities, including kidnapping, noting that its completion would significantly improve security, safety, access to healthcare for residents.
“This particular corridor of the road in Ahoada East leading to Ihuama was a trap. Kidnapping was at a very high rate along this corridor,” Fubara said.
“Our traditional ruler, the Eze Okpata, narrated how women lost their lives, their babies while trying to access the major road before getting to the hospital.”
He further explained that the road had also served as a strategic access route for criminals, who used it to navigate waterways, evade security agencies.
“This corridor was being used by those who do not want peace in our state. Criminals used this entrance to access another river, before getting to the other side of the local government area,” he said.
“I can say today that, with what we have done, it will no longer be business as usual for them.”
The Governor said the project exemplified his administration’s people-centred approach to governance, stressing that providing essential infrastructure was not extraordinary, rather a fundamental duty of government.

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment towards service delivery, inclusive development, noting that although every administration has a defined lifespan, his government would be remembered for its simplicity, openness, responsiveness to public concerns.
He also commended the contractor handling the project, for delivering quality work, attributing the success of the project to adequate funding, effective supervision, cooperation from the host community.
“The contractor has proven once again that with proper release of funds, adequate supervision, community cooperation, projects can be delivered,” he said.
The governor further assured the traditional rulers, people of the area that requests for additional roads, infrastructure would be considered, pledging sustained development interventions across Rivers State.
