The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will not recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing existing court judgments and unresolved legal processes.

In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission said it could not act on requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers purportedly elected at the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.

INEC explained that its decision was guided by subsisting court rulings and pending litigation arising from the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.

According to the commission, recognising any factional leadership while the matter remains before the courts would be improper.

INEC reiterated that it would only act in line with the final outcome of the judicial processes to avoid undermining the rule of law.
