Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff members in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reaffirming its commitment to career advancement, institutional continuity, and organizational stability.

The decision was reached at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi.

According to the statement, the promotion covered various cadres across the Commission and was conducted in line with established guidelines and extant public service rules.

At the Directorate level, which covers Grade Levels (GL) 16–17, a total of 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors.

Of these, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are expected to retire shortly after their promotion in accordance with public service regulations.

Similarly, 91 Assistant Directors on GL 15–16 were promoted to Deputy Directors, while 82 Chief Officers on GL 14–15 advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors.

The exercise also impacted 2,121 intermediate officers across Grade Levels 07–13 in various departments of the Commission, reflecting a broad-based effort to strengthen capacity and reward service at multiple levels.

“In all, the promotions cut across multiple cadres and were conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules,” the statement noted.

INEC stated that the exercise demonstrates its resolve to reward merit, dedication, and years of service, while sustaining leadership depth across its organisational structure.

The Commission emphasized that strengthening its human resource base remains critical as it continues preparations for forthcoming electoral engagements.

The Commission congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities.
