The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, February 20, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2027.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the election timetable during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.
The announcement comes amid concerns over the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act, currently under consideration by the National Assembly.
The commission stated that it had completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities despite the legislative delay.
Prof. Amupitan noted that the timetable had been submitted to lawmakers but cautioned that some items in the schedule could be affected depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.
INEC reassured stakeholders that it remains committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in line with Nigeria’s constitutional provisions.
