The newly formed Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Media Advocates (ISDMA) has been officially unveiled following a successful courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Aniekan Umanah, at his Shelter Afrique residence in Uyo.
Led by the President, Mr. Emma Akpabio, the delegation formally introduced the association to the Commissioner and outlined its vision and objectives. The group explained that the Executive Committee (EXCO) was elected through a transparent process at a general congress held at New Point Hotel, with membership reflecting broad-based consultations across the district to ensure inclusiveness and representation.
During the visit, ISDMA also announced the nomination of Commissioner Umanah as Patron of the group, alongside other distinguished personalities including Pastor Anietie Ukpe, Arch. Ubokutom Nyah, Ms. Comfort Umana, Mr. Udeme Nana, Mr. Census Ekpu, and Mr. Itoro Columba.
Commending the initiative, Commissioner Umanah highlighted the critical role of responsible media practice and effective communication in advancing governance, accountability, and development in the state.
ISDMA was established to amplify the achievements of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno, promote the contributions of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a proud son of the district and highlight the efforts of other public-spirited individuals within the senatorial district.
The association also pledged to serve as a conscience for the people, tracking projects, monitoring promises, and advocating for accountability and people-centered governance.
Membership in ISDMA is open to media practitioners from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District who demonstrate professionalism and integrity.
The visit marked the start of a collaborative partnership between the association and the Ministry of Information to strengthen media professionalism, unity, and impactful reporting in the district.
ISDMA also announced the appointment of Dr. Imoh Etim Udoh and Mr. Dominic Akpan as advisers to the organization.
