Nigerian socialite, Henry Ikeji, has denied allegations linking him to a $2.5m online romance and investment scam, describing the claims as an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Ikeji, who is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, spoke during an interview with AIT on Wednesday, insisting he did not defraud a Romanian woman as alleged.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the police were reviewing a documentary alleging that Ikeji impersonated the Crown Prince of Dubai in a romance-cum-investment fraud said to have cost the victim about $2.5m.

Reacting to the development, Ikeji said the money connected to the matter was paid into his account in naira, questioned the motive behind the allegations.

“The money was paid to me from a naira account. I feel there is a targeted plan to destroy my reputation,” he said.

Police authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing, adding that no formal complaint has yet been received from the alleged victim or the documentary producers.

The National Cybercrime Centre has not filed any charge against Ikeji as of the time of filing this report.
