The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State that security agencies will intensify operations to reclaim communities threatened by bandits and other criminal elements.

Disu made the assurance on Monday during his visit to Ilorin where he met with security stakeholders and officers of the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in the state.

He charged security personnel to increase operational activities aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in affected communities.

According to him, criminal groups cannot be allowed to displace law abiding residents from their communities.

He also urged residents to support security agencies with credible and timely intelligence, stressing that collaboration between communities and security operatives is essential to tackling insecurity.

The police chief cautioned against ethnic profiling while addressing concerns around security challenges, noting that criminal acts should not be attributed to any particular ethnic group.

He acknowledged that many Fulani residents have continued to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that has aided security operations.

Disu noted that peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups remains important in sustaining stability and preventing criminals from exploiting community divisions.

During the visit, representatives of Fulani groups in the state pledged their continued support to security agencies and promised to assist authorities with intelligence that could help expose criminal hideouts.

They also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies to effectively dismantle criminal networks operating in rural areas.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Adekimi Ojo, said the visit of the Inspector General had boosted the morale of officers and reinforced ongoing efforts to combat banditry and violent crimes.

Earlier, Disu also paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Government House where he was received by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq.

Kwara State has in recent years witnessed a rise in security challenges including kidnappings, bandit attacks in several rural communities, prompting increased security operations across affected local government areas.
