The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered massive security deployment across Nigeria ahead of the Easter celebrations to ensure the safety of lives and property during the festive period.
In a statement, signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, on Thursday, April 3, 2026, the police chief also extended warm felicitations to Christians across the country as they commemorate Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday, marking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement robust security measures throughout the Easter holidays.
The directive includes the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and members of the Special Intervention Squad, as well as conventional police personnel to churches, worship centres, and other critical infrastructure.
The police will also increase their presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public places to ensure that the celebrations remain peaceful and hitch-free across the country.
As part of the security arrangements, the IGP ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties aimed at preventing criminal activities and responding swiftly to any potential threats.
While urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies, the IGP called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police +2348057000002, +2349133333785, and +2349133333786.
