The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, IGP Disu described the decoration as more than a ceremonial exercise, noting that the promotion to the rank of DIG represents decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and proven leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
He charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic direction, strengthen internal discipline, and drive reforms aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Force.
The police chief also urged them to ensure that policing strategies remain responsive to the country’s evolving security challenges.
According to him, the officers are expected to leverage their wealth of experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and accountability, while also inspiring confidence within the Force and fostering greater trust among members of the public.
IGP Disu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support to the Nigeria Police Force.
He also commended the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
The police boss further acknowledged the families of the newly promoted officers, noting that their sacrifices and encouragement played significant roles in the officers’ distinguished careers.
The officers decorated as Deputy Inspectors-General of Police include Zachariah Fera Achinyan; Zango Ibrahim Baba; Isyaku Mohammed; Margaret Agebe Ochalla; Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie; Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha; and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The newly promoted DIGs, alongside the Force Secretary, AIG Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, will form part of the new Force Management Team.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Chairman of the House Committee on Airforce, Rt. Hon. Kabir Alhassan Rurum; Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Temitope Ilori; former Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kefas; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Jide Adeniji; Kogi State Commissioner Muhammed Abdulmutalik; the Zazzau of Zaria; Mrs. Arese Arase, wife of the late IGP Arase; former DSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar; as well as several retired senior police officers.
