Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he has resigned from his position to pursue the Oyo State governorship seat ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the purported resignation letter as fake.

Reacting to the claims during an interview, Adelabu stated that he has not written or submitted any resignation letter, insisting that the document being circulated online is not authentic.

Although he acknowledged his continued interest in the Oyo State governorship race, the minister clarified that no official step has been taken yet regarding resignation from his current role.

“Of course, I am very much in the race,” Adelabu said when asked about his political ambition. “However, I will act at the appropriate time, and the public will be duly informed. Any decision taken will also be with the consent of Mr. President.”

The minister emphasized that his primary focus remains on his current national assignment, stressing that he is committed to delivering on his responsibilities in the power sector.

“For now, I am fully committed to my present assignment. It is still about service, whether at the national or sub-national level,” he added.

Adelabu also disclosed that the Renewed Hope Agenda Ambassadors in Oyo State, led by Senator Teslim Folarin, have been actively working since 2025 to reconcile aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.

According to him, the group has been engaging party stakeholders across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State in a bid to foster unity, ensure that party members work together towards common political objectives.

He noted that the immediate priority of the group is to mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, while also strengthening the APC’s prospects in Oyo State.
