The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, over the alleged accidental shooting that led to the death of his co-hunter, Femi Oyedepo, in Ibadan.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 7, at Oretan Ijaiye Forest in the Moniya area of Akinyele Local Government.
According to the police, Rasaki reported at the Moniya Police Division that he had mistakenly shot Oyedepo during a hunting expedition earlier in the day. The victim was said to have collapsed and died at the scene.
Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, visited the area, recovered the body and arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody, as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested one Olatunji Segun in connection with the killing of a student of the Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic in Saki.
The command said it responded to a distress call on the same day, reporting a violent altercation among students near the school. During the incident, a student was shot, rushed to a private hospital in Saki, where the victim later died.
One expended cartridge was recovered from the scene, while the suspect has been taken into custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, commended officers involved in the operations for their swift response and professionalism.
