The Gusau emirate of Zamfara State has under the banner of Late Emir Ibrahim Bello Foundation distributed food items to 150 orphans, people displaced by the lingering insecurity in the state.
Late Emir Ibrahim Bello Foundation was initiated, launched on Friday by the Gusau emirate with a view to immortalize the late emir with the aims to preserve, promote, and institutionalise the legacy, values, and humanitarian ideals of Sarkin Katsinan Gusau Late Ibrahim Bello.
Speaking during the launching ceremony at Garba Nadama hall Jibril Bala Yakubu Secretariat Gusau, the grand patron and founder of the foundation, the Emir of Gusau, HRH Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, said part of reasons for establishing the foundation is to support community development, poverty alleviation through empowerment initiatives, vocational training, social welfare programmes.
Abdulkadir Bello further explained that, the foundation would embark upon providing charitable and humanitarian assistance to widows, orphans, internally displaced persons, other disadvantaged groups within society.
According to him: “The Sarkin Katsinan Gusau Late Ibrahim Bello Foundation is established in honour of the late Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, Ibrahim Bello, a revered traditional ruler whose life was marked by selfless service, compassion, unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people.
“Considering late emir’s commitments on education while he was alive, the foundation would focus on promoting access to quality education by providing scholarships, learning materials, mentorship programmes, skills development opportunities for indigent and vulnerable students in the state”.
Also speaking, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who revealed that N10m being the state government contribution, also pledged continued support both in cash and in kind, when needed.
Governor Lawal opined that Zamfara will never forget a hardworking, selfless emir late Ibrahim Bello, who spent most of his life time and wealth in promoting education and health not only in Gusau but the entire state.
He also commended plans by the foundation in efforts to advance healthcare delivery through medical outreaches, health awareness campaigns, direct support to vulnerable populations.
