A church crusade in Agboda community, Mararaba Udege, in Nasarawa Local Government Area, was on Monday thrown into chaos after armed men invaded the area, forcing worshippers to flee for safety.
The programme organiser, Dr. Daniel Ukpo, told journalists that the attack occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. while the crusade was underway.
According to him, tension escalated when information filtered in that gunmen had struck a nearby settlement.
“A young man riding a motorcycle was ambushed, inflicted with a machete cut, and his bike was snatched. Once participants heard about the attack, people started running in different directions,” Ukpo recounted.
He explained that the crusade was immediately halted to prevent further panic or casualties.
Ukpo described the incident as one of several recurring security breaches in the Mararaba Udege axis, lamenting that communities continue to face attacks, farm destruction, and poor security presence.
“People are being attacked on the roads and even on their farms. Many of these cases never get reported. The security presence here is very weak,” he said, urging both state and federal authorities to intervene urgently.

He also noted that religious gatherings in the area have previously been disrupted by suspected armed herders, leaving residents feeling “defenseless and abandoned.”
As at the time this report was filed, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
