Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, says he would openly support a pardon for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if he shows genuine remorse.

Gumi stated this on Tuesday during an appearance on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme.

His comments come barely a week after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on all seven terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.

According to the cleric, remorse and reconciliation remain important pathways to resolving national grievances. He stressed that dialogue, rather than entrenched hostility, is essential for sustainable peace.
