Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will on Friday, November 21, 2025, inaugurate the newly constructed and fully equipped General Hospital in Ikot Akpa Nkuk, Ukanafun Local Government Area, alongside 2.2 kilometres of access and internal roads built to enhance movement within and around the facility.
The hospital, executed by the Ministry of Health, is one of the flagship healthcare projects of the Governor’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes accessible, modern, and people-centered healthcare across the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, the new General Hospital comes fitted with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure and is designed to provide comprehensive services ranging from emergency care to specialized treatments.
The adjoining 2.2km road network, officials say, will ensure smooth mobility within the premises and improve connectivity for residents and visitors.
The facility boasts a 62-bed capacity distributed across specialized wards, including a female surgical ward, male surgical ward, pediatric ward, children’s emergency unit, female medical wards (1 and 2), post-natal ward, antenatal ward, labour ward, and an accident and emergency (A&E) wing.
It is also equipped with oxygen wall units to guarantee uninterrupted oxygen supply to patients.
Additional features include six consulting rooms, a dedicated labour room, a fully equipped Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G) theatre, a main theatre for major surgeries, a minor procedure room, and a modern mortuary.
The complex further integrates a primary health centre, two automated operating tables, two manual operating tables, and multiple all-purpose delivery beds.
The facility reflects Governor Eno’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system, reducing referral pressures on tertiary hospitals, and bringing quality medical services closer to the people of Ukanafun and neighbouring communities.
