GOVERNOR ENO COMMISSIONS EKET ULTRA-MODERN HEALTH CENTRE

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a well-equipped ultra-modern Primary Health Centre at Nduo Eduo, Eket Local Government Area; describing the facility as a people-centered intervention and a special Christmas gift to the community.

Commissioning the health Center on Monday, December 29, 2025, Governor Eno charged community leaders, stakeholders and residents to collectively safeguard the facility, ensure its optimal use for the benefit of the present, future generations.

“Please, come together to protect this facility. It is for your families and community. Patronize it and make the best use of it. Let it not be vandalized because of lack of concern and care,” the Governor admonished.

The Governor explained that the project was executed under his One Project Per Local Government Initiative, an electioneering promise he made to the people of Nduo Eduo, the late Elder Ekwo.

He commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and other officials involved in the delivery of the project for their commitment and professionalism, which ensured its timely completion.

Governor Eno, however, expressed displeasure over delays in the execution of similar projects in some parts of the State.

He revealed that nine local government areas were yet to complete their allocated projects more than two and a half years into the administration.

“Nine Local Government Areas are yet to have their projects completed, two and a half years into this administration,” the Governor said, directing that the contracts for the affected projects be terminated forthwith.

He condemned the practice whereby contractors bid for and accept project contracts, only to abandon them or execute them below specification, later seeking cost variations.

The Governor warned that contractors, their guarantors would be held accountable if found culpable following a financial audit of the affected projects.

Governor Eno also used the occasion to appeal to the people of Eket to maintain peace, refrain from actions capable of disrupting the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, particularly the section mapped to pass through the Stubb’s Creek axis.

Presenting an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, lauded the Governor for his exemplary leadership, commitment to the wellbeing of the people, noting that the Governor chose to commission the project despite the Christmas holiday.

He described the facility as a unique Christmas gift to the people of Eket, stating that it is fully equipped, modern medical infrastructure designed to deliver quality primary healthcare services.

According to him, facilities at the centre include a resuscitation machine, a functional laboratory with an advanced pathology analyser, accident and emergency unit, immunization room, nutrition centre, vaccine storage facility, and staff quarters.

He added that the centre is fully staffed, powered by solar energy system.

Dr. John urged political leaders, stakeholders to support, maximize the Governor’s investments in the health sector, including the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme, and appealed to the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area to provide adequate security to protect the facility from vandalism.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Eno for prioritizing grassroots development, delivering impactful projects to the area.
