Governor Umo Eno has set a benchmark of at least 100 women per ward for registration into the ARISE Cooperative Scheme in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots access to grants and empowerment programmes.

The Governor’s directive was conveyed by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, during the Women Sensitization Tour and Health Check held on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, at the Nsit Ibom Local Government Headquarters.

Addressing a large gathering of women, Senator Eyakenyi said Governor Eno remains deeply committed to the economic advancement of women and has directed that cooperative structures be strengthened across all wards in the state.

According to her, women form the majority of the population and deserve to be honoured and empowered.

“The Governor appreciates and loves the women of Akwa Ibom State,” she said, adding that the sensitisation tour was not a political campaign but an initiative to inform women about government programmes designed for their benefit.

She disclosed that grants for farmers, traders and small-scale entrepreneurs in Nsit Ibom are in the pipeline, stressing that cooperative registration would position beneficiaries to access such interventions. She noted that the ARISE Agenda of the present administration has continued to drive progressive development across the state.

While commending the women for their solidarity, the deputy governor encouraged them to obtain or renew their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), remain politically conscious ahead of 2027 and ensure strong participation in civic activities. She also urged the area to mobilise at least 300 women for the March 7 International Women’s Day celebration at the Uyo Township Stadium.

In her remarks, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, conveyed the Governor’s appreciation to the women and youths for their massive turnout. She expressed confidence in their continued support for government initiatives and encouraged eligible young people to secure their PVCs in preparation for future elections.
