Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has described the late Rev. (Dr.) Emmanuel Akpan Ossom as a devoted servant of God whose life remains worthy of emulation.
Governor Eno made the remarks on Saturday, February 21, 2026, during the funeral service held in honour of the cleric at the United Evangelical Church, Ikot Ubo, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the deceased, the Governor recalled that Rev. Ossom baptized him in December 1974 at the Qua Iboe Church, Surulere, Lagos, and personally signed his baptismal certificate.
“Anybody who met Rev. (Dr.) Ossom knew he met a child of God. For me particularly, I cannot forget December 1974, when he baptized me personally and signed my baptismal certificate,” he said.
On behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Eno extended heartfelt condolences to the family, describing the deceased as a father in faith whose legacy would endure.
He assured the family of the government’s continued support and expressed hope that the late patriarch had gone to be with his Creator.
“Our late Daddy was one of the strong leaders of the Akwa Ibom State Christian Leadership Advisory Council. We pray that God, in His infinite mercy, will fill the gap and continue to raise men of wisdom and character like him for the State,” the Governor added.
In his tribute, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, eulogized the exceptional virtues of the deceased, noting that through his ministry, many people were led to Christ. He urged the family to take solace in the impactful and God-glorifying life he lived and prayed for divine comfort for them.
Delivering a sermon titled “Benefits of Christians in Death,” drawn from Philippians 1: 21–27, the Chairman of Conference, United Evangelical Church, Rev. Daniel Anjorin, stated that Christians who die in Christ gain a better body, home, fellowship, inheritance and eternal rest from labour.
