Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the sum of ₦2.5 billion for the procurement of over 620,000 palm seedlings for distribution to farmers across the 31 local government areas of the state.

The approval was announced on Tuesday during the March Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, where the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to timely project execution and sustainable development.

Governor Eno disclosed that the palm seedlings initiative forms part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and stimulate economic growth, adding that the programme would be formally launched at a later date.

The Governor also reviewed 55 ongoing projects across key sectors, with clear timelines and commissioning dates established. He noted that his administration is currently executing 86 priority projects aside from roads, hospitals, and schools.

Projects reviewed include the Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hotel, Itam Industrial Park, International Market in Ikot Ekpene, AKWA-GIS House, Judiciary Village, 350-bed International Hospital, Arise Palm Resort, and major airport infrastructure, among others.

On infrastructure, the Commissioner for Works reported that an additional 10 road projects covering 58.5 kilometres have been completed and are scheduled for commissioning in May 2026, bringing progress to over 1,300 kilometres of road projects statewide.

Governor Eno also addressed the state’s electricity challenges, attributing the current situation to low national power generation, while assuring that government is engaging relevant stakeholders to improve supply and reposition Akwa Ibom to take ownership of its power market.

He directed the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to fast-track the completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres, stressing the need for stronger collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; commissioners; delivery advisors; and other stakeholders.

Participants, including representatives of women and youth groups, commended the administration’s fiscal discipline and project delivery pace, urging the Governor to sustain the momentum.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on the ARISE Agenda for the benefit of all Akwa Ibom people.
