The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammed Wase, has commended troops for their bravery and professionalism during recent operations against bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Major General Wase gave the commendation on Tuesday during an operational assessment visit to frontline troops at Farin Ruwa and Tsaure Forward Operating Bases in Shanono. He praised their resilience in the face of recent security challenges and urged them to remain steadfast in the ongoing fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.

The visit followed the bandit attack in Shanono on November 2, 2025, which claimed the lives of two security personnel and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force. The GOC’s visit was aimed at assessing the security situation and boosting the morale of the troops stationed in the area.

During the visit, General Wase interacted with the soldiers, listened to their challenges, and offered operational guidance. He assured them of the continued support of the Chief of Army Staff, emphasizing the Army’s commitment to ensuring the success of ongoing operations and the restoration of lasting peace in the region.

The GOC also inspected a border area between Kano and Katsina States, identified as a major crossing point for bandits. He urged the troops to remain vigilant, sustain the operational tempo, and maintain close collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

Troops currently deployed in the area include personnel from the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.

In continuation of his visit, Major General Wase paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House, Kano. The visit featured discussions on ongoing security efforts and the presentation of a souvenir to the Governor.
