The headquarters of a Ghanaian United Nations peacekeeping battalion in Lebanon has been struck by missile attacks, leaving two soldiers critically injured, according to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces.
The attack occurred on Friday at the base of Ghanaian troops deployed under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
Military authorities said two soldiers sustained critical injuries during the strike, while another soldier suffered severe trauma. The officers’ mess facility at the base was also hit and destroyed by fire.
Officials did not immediately identify who launched the missiles. However, the incident comes amid rising tensions after Hezbollah fired rockets toward Israel earlier in the week, prompting a renewed Israeli military offensive in Lebanon.
The Ghana government has lodged a formal protest through its foreign ministry at United Nations Headquarters in New York, demanding clarification, accountability for the attack on its peacekeeping personnel.
Ghanaian troops are part of the UN mission tasked with maintaining stability along the Israel-Lebanon border, a region that has witnessed increased hostilities as the broader Middle East conflict continues to expand.
