The Nasser Hospital Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, has strongly condemned Doctors Without Borders (MSF) for alleging the presence of armed men at the facility, which prompted the charity to suspend noncritical operations.

The hospital described the MSF claims as “false, unsubstantiated, misleading,” arguing they risk the safety of one of southern Gaza’s last major functioning hospitals, undermine its protected status under international humanitarian law. It accused MSF of mirroring narratives historically used to justify attacks on medical facilities.

MSF suspended operations citing security breaches after the U.S.-brokered ceasefire in October 2025, noting that patients and staff reported seeing armed men in parts of the hospital compound.

The hospital said isolated unlawful actions by uncontrolled individuals may occur under Gaza’s extreme conditions, but MSF’s statements misrepresent facts. Nasser Hospital demanded that MSF retract its allegations and reaffirm its commitment to medical neutrality.

The complex added that attacks and threats against its staff and patients have occurred, and civilian police are present in compliance with law and international norms. Another group, Doctors Against Genocide, also criticized MSF for making false accusations.

MSF’s decision follows directives from Israel requiring international organizations to provide staff lists, which MSF refused, citing safety concerns. Gaza continues to face severe destruction of health infrastructure, with 95 Palestinian medical workers currently held by Israel, including 80 from Gaza.
