The European Union Trade Commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, will participate in a meeting of G7 trade ministers later on Monday to address growing uncertainty triggered by new blanket tariffs introduced by Donald Trump.
The development follows a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, after which Washington moved to impose a 15 percent tariff measure that has raised fresh concerns among key trading partners.
According to a spokesperson for the European Commission, the EU executive is seeking full clarity on the implications of the new measures for the transatlantic trade relationship. The Commission emphasised the need for stability and predictability in global trade engagements.
Sefcovic is expected to join his counterparts from the Group of Seven nations, with U.S. representatives also anticipated at the meeting. Discussions will centre on the broader impact of the tariff decision and possible coordinated responses among major economies.
The move comes amid heightened global trade sensitivities, as leading economies weigh the consequences of protectionist policies on supply chains, investment flows and economic recovery efforts.
